Will Server 2008 – Or 2003 – Work On Vmware Virtual Machine?

    vista is call a workstation in Microsoft terms.
    the only difference between a server and workstation is there are other processes that don’t require a user interface to operate.
    where as a workstation is primarily used to intefaces with applications like Word.
    Now I have not run 2003, there may be some calls in the server code that vista no longer supports.
    Like there is extra information on the disk format that it may not recognize.
    so have everything backed up before you try it

    yes they will work but what i have found works even better is virtual pc 2008 r2 that is a program that is free from microsoft to make virtual machines but to answer your original question Yes it will work i have tried 2003 and it works i cant see why 2008 would not.

    Yes, we use it all of the time here at work. Both for development and testing systems.
    On my laptop I use it for 3 different server installs but can really only run one at a time. Once you get 2 going the system runs way too slow.
