Can I Use Windows Vista Business Upgrade For A Virtual Machine Os (virtualbox On Mac Os X 10.5.8)?

November 17th, 2009 Leave a reply »

I want to install VirtualBox on my Mac to run Windows Vista Business. I don’t want to pay for a full version so I was wondering if I can use an upgrade version. I was also wondering if I could allocate all of my RAM to Vista and when Vista doesn’t use all that RAM would my Mac use it? Thanks

Problem here is that an upgrade version can only be used to upgrade an existing operating system and can’t be installed as a clean install. However, there’s a workaround available.
Secondly, you can’t allocate all of your RAM to Vista as the operating system you are already using requires some of it as well. If you use Virtual Box, you can set the amount of RAM to be used for the virtual machine – it automatically allocates 512Mb but you can adjust this – I recommend 1Gb. Of course, it depends on the amount of RAM your host machine has in the first place. As for the workaround, if you want any more information, please let me know.
